Start here — your first 90 days

One action per week. That's it. These six moves will put you in front of more families than most swim instructors reach in a year.

Week 1

Create profiles on Thumbtack, Care.com, and Lessons.com using the Directory Kit at /directory-kit. Upload photos. Add all 5 reviews.

Week 2

Join 6–8 local Facebook parent groups. Don't post yet — just join and observe for a week.

Week 3

Post your first Instagram Reel: a 20-second clip of a splash, a kick, a float. Add location tags and hashtags. Share to your Stories.

Week 4

Text every current family: "Would you be willing to leave us a Google review? Here's the direct link: [link]." Aim for 3 new reviews this month.

Month 2

Start posting to GBP once a week. Begin the referral program — text every family the offer and the short link.

Month 3

Reach out to 3 local pediatric offices and 2 daycares with a simple card or email. Start the seasonal calendar — plan your spring push.

The full strategy

Seven channels, each with specific tactics. Work through them in priority order — the first three will move the needle fastest.

Instagram @jaxbeachswim

Highest impact

Parents in the 20-mile radius are on Instagram. Video of a child's first independent swim is the most shareable content in this category — it sells itself.

  • Post one Reel per week: a 15–30 second clip of a milestone moment (first float, first kick, first independent swim). No faces needed — just hands, feet, splashes, and joy.

  • Use location tags: Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Atlantic Beach on every post.

  • Hashtags per post: #SwimLessonSuzi #JaxBeachSwim #JacksonvilleBeachSwimLessons #PrivateSwimLessons #HopeFloats #LearnToSwim #JaxBeach #PonteVedra

  • Stories: weekly "Suzi's tip of the week" — one water safety or swim skill tip. Takes 2 minutes to record, builds authority.

  • Highlight reels to create: "Before & After", "Adaptive Swimmers", "Adults Who Learned", "What Parents Say".

  • Reply to every comment and DM within 24 hours — the algorithm rewards it and parents notice.

  • Once a month: share Barry's story (or a similar transformation) as a carousel post. These get saved and shared more than anything else.

Google Business Profile

Already strong — keep feeding it

When a parent in Nocatee searches "swim lessons near me," your GBP is the first thing they see. Reviews and fresh posts keep you at the top.

  • Ask every new family for a Google review after their 3rd or 4th lesson — that's when the transformation is visible and they're most excited. Text them the direct link.

  • Post to GBP once a week: a photo, a tip, or a seasonal note ("Year-round lessons — even in November!"). GBP posts expire after 7 days so consistency matters.

  • Add "Hope Floats scholarship accepted" and "Government vouchers welcome" to your GBP description — parents searching for affordable lessons will find you.

  • Answer every Q&A on your GBP listing. If no one has asked yet, seed it yourself with the most common questions (age, pricing, location).

  • Add photos monthly — pool, duck, oak tree, lesson setup. Fresh photos signal an active business.

Local community groups

High reach, zero cost

Facebook groups like "Jacksonville Beach Moms," "Ponte Vedra Families," and "Nocatee Community" have thousands of local parents. A single recommendation post can fill a month of lessons.

  • Join every local parent/family Facebook group within 20 miles. Search: "[City] Moms," "[City] Families," "[City] Parents," "[City] Community."

  • Don't post ads — post value. Share your "tip of the week" from Instagram. Answer swim-related questions when they come up.

  • When a parent asks "does anyone know a good swim instructor?" in a group — that's your moment. Reply personally, warmly, and with your website.

  • Ask your happiest families to mention you in those groups when swim lessons come up. Word-of-mouth in a local group is worth 10 ads.

  • Nextdoor: create a business profile and post a seasonal intro ("Getting ready for summer? Year-round private swim lessons in Jax Beach..."). Nextdoor reaches homeowners by neighborhood.

  • Key groups to find and join: Jacksonville Beach Moms, Ponte Vedra Moms, Neptune Beach Community, Nocatee Neighbors, Atlantic Beach Families, St. Johns County Parents.

Referral program

Highest quality leads

A parent who was referred by a friend converts at 3–5x the rate of a cold lead. Your existing families are your best marketing team.

  • Create a simple referral offer: "Refer a friend who books a package — you both get one free lesson credit." Text it to every current family.

  • Make it easy: give families a short link (swimlessonsuzi.com/buy) and a one-line text they can forward: "My kids take lessons with Suzi in Jax Beach — she's incredible. 904-476-2235."

  • After a milestone lesson (first swim, first dive, first lap), text the parent: "Would you be willing to share a quick Google review? Here's the direct link: [link]." Include the direct link.

  • For adaptive families: a personal note from Suzi thanking them and asking if they know anyone else who might benefit. These referrals are the most loyal.

  • Holiday cards or a simple end-of-year text to every family: "Thank you for trusting me with your swimmer this year." Keeps you top of mind for referrals.

Seasonal campaigns

Time your pushes right

Swim lesson demand spikes predictably. Getting in front of parents 4–6 weeks before each peak means you fill your calendar before competitors.

  • February–March ("Spring Break prep"): Post "Spring Break is 6 weeks away — is your child ready for the beach?" Target families with kids 2–10.

  • April–May ("Summer countdown"): Your biggest push. "Summer is coming — private lessons fill fast." Run this on Instagram, GBP, and community groups simultaneously.

  • August ("Back to school, back to the pool"): Many families pause in summer and restart in fall. "Year-round lessons — fall is a great time to build real skills without the summer rush."

  • October–November ("Holiday gift"): "Give the gift of swimming — lesson packages valid 3 years." Parents love gifting experiences. Push the Buy 15 Get 20 package.

  • January ("New Year, new skill"): "New year, new swimmer. Adults welcome — it's never too late." Target adults and seniors specifically.

  • Hope Floats / scholarship push: Time a post about scholarship availability to coincide with school enrollment periods (July–August, December–January) when families are thinking about programs.

Directory listings

Set once, works forever

Parents searching "swim lessons Jacksonville Beach" on Thumbtack, Care.com, or Lessons.com are ready to book. A complete profile with reviews converts at high rates.

  • Create profiles on Thumbtack, Care.com, and Lessons.com using the copy at swimlessonsuzi.com/directory-kit.

  • Upload 3–5 photos to each profile: the pool, the oak tree setting, the yellow duck, a lesson in progress (no faces needed).

  • Add all 5 Google reviews as testimonials on each platform.

  • Include the Hope Floats scholarship note on every profile — it differentiates you from every other instructor.

  • Check each platform monthly for new inquiries. Respond within 2 hours — platforms rank faster responders higher.

  • Once you have 5+ reviews on each platform, request a "Top Pro" or equivalent badge — it increases visibility significantly.

Local partnerships

Long-term relationship building

Pediatricians, daycares, and schools in the 20-mile radius see thousands of families. One relationship can send you a steady stream of referrals for years.

  • Pediatric offices: Drop off a small card or flyer at pediatric practices in Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, and Ponte Vedra. "Water safety starts early — private swim lessons for babies through adults." Include the Hope Floats note.

  • Daycares and preschools: Ask if you can leave flyers in their parent communication area. Many daycares actively recommend swim instructors to parents.

  • Elementary schools: Reach out to the PTA/PTO at schools in the 20-mile radius. Offer to speak at a parent meeting about water safety — it's free value and positions you as the expert.

  • Special needs therapists and pediatric OT/PT: For adaptive swimmers, a referral from a therapist is gold. Introduce yourself to local pediatric therapy practices.

  • Beach rental shops and surf schools: Leave cards at Jax Beach surf schools and rental shops. Their customers are already water-oriented families.

  • Local pediatric dentists, children's hair salons, and kids' gyms: Any business that serves families with young children is a potential referral partner.

"The best marketing you'll ever do is a child who swims across the pool for the first time and a parent who can't stop talking about it."

Everything above is just a way to make sure more families get the chance to experience that moment.
